Teach in Induction Events

A work induction (or onboarding) is a critical process that helps new employees transition smoothly into their roles. At Teach in we know that overseas teachers coming to work in the UK for the first time will need guidance and support before they step into the classroom, begin their contract, and throughout their time in the UK.

Here are some teachers talking about a recent Induction Day they attended and the support they received when they started in their schools.

All Teach in teachers have an Overseas (local) Consultant, a UK Consultant, and a School Mentor assigned to them, so they always have someone to support them while applying for work, gaining a job, and working in the UK. Your local consultant is a teacher with UK and Aussie experience, so we know what you need in the way of support.

Before our international teachers start positions in September or January each year, we hold an Induction Day in London or within other regional offices. We invite key speakers to address our new starters, and because we are part of the same organisation that trains teachers in the UK through a Teaching Apprenticeship programme, we have lots of high-level advice and support available.

So, what can you expect at one of our Induction Days?

During a Teach in Induction event, you will gain the following:

  1. An insight into our company and how we work, and an introduction to your UK Consultant (if you have not already met them in person) and the wider team.
  2. Behaviour policies and structures in UK Schools and Adaptive Teaching strategies
  3. Assessment at each level, including formative and summative assessment in the UK
  4. Special Needs Education and Teaching Principals
  5. Curriculum Terminology in the UK
  6. Types of schools and what to expect at your school
  7. You will also meet and connect with the many new overseas teachers starting jobs at the same time as you and who you will continue to meet and connect with at our Networking Events.
  8. An insight into British Teaching Standards and their Professional Standards and understand and differences between standards and frameworks in the UK versus your home country.
  9. Feedback and advice from British Headteachers and our team, so you can make the best impression and hit the ground running.
  10. You will also be given support on navigating classroom etiquette and invited to future Professional Development Sessions (CPD sessions).

Induction Days always provide some food and time to connect with your UK Consultant and other teachers like you who are getting started. Your UK Consultant will have more specific information for you about your school, processes, and what to expect when you get started there,  and they will be there to check in with you regularly and make sure you are having a positive experience.
