Teach in Northampton
Northampton is a great choice for international teachers keen to experience the best of UK life, whilst on a budget.
With its central location, Northampton is the perfect choice for teachers who want the best of the UK countryside, whilst still maintaining fantastic transport links to some of the UK’s most vibrant cities. London is just an hour away by train, as are Oxford, Cambridge and Birmingham, as well as a host of natural attractions. If you’re keen to spend your bank holiday weekends and half term breaks on the Continent, Luton Airport is just 40 miles from Northampton, and Birmingham Airport is a mere 50 minute train ride away, so you’ve got a choice of cheap airlines to head to Europe with (plus Birmingham Airport is a cheaper option for long haul flights that London Airports tend to be!).
Northampton is a compact town, although one that is expanding quickly, with lots of new development going on. Due to the small footprint of the area you could consider living ‘out of town’ in a village, enjoying some of the UK’s most beautiful countryside right on Northampton’s doorstep.
Set amongst a rural and sparsely populated landscape, this area of the East Midlands has remained largely unchanged for decades, with miles of rolling green countryside, woodland and quiet country lanes.
There are beautifully picturesque parks nearby, ideal for summer picnics and exploring. You could visit Wickstead Park, enjoy a spot of fishing or bird-watching in Sywell Country Park, enjoy the bluebells in early summer at Coton Manor Garden, or enjoy the lakes, sporting facilities and free fitness trail at popular Abingdon Park.
Foodies will be pleased by the range of quality restaurants in Northampton. Our recommendations include The Mail Coach Gastropub, in the heart of Northampton’s Cultural Quarter, as well as the high-quality British food at The Wheatsheaf in Allington. Jazz night at The Wig and Pen is always a great night out. For a yummy scone & cuppa, or hand-crafted artisan bread, visit The Good Loaf on Overtone Road, or pop into Magee Street Bakery on weekends for a lazy and delicious brunch with your newfound buddies.
