He will be recruiting international teachers into a range of schools on behalf of the borough – offering interviews for real teaching positions. He will also be looking to hire teachers for roles within his previous school, Bower Park Academy. Watch the video below to see how Stuart and schools in Havering will support our overseas teachers.
A job and a place to live – Support with accommodations in Havering
As a result of our partnership with HES, we are in the privileged position of being able to offer overseas teachers support with finding accommodations in the area. We have a shortlist of pre-vetted local Havering hosts willing to rent to teachers at reasonable prices.
We’ll work with you to match you to the right host and even arrange ‘getting to know you sessions’ before you move in! More information on accommodations can be provided on registration.

About the ex Principal
Stuart McLaughlin has been the Principal of Bower Park Academy since January 2017 and until April 2020. He took over the school at a very low point after it was placed into Special Measures by Ofsted in December 2016. Under his leadership, the school was judged to be ‘Good’ by Ofsted just fifteen months later. Not only was this a remarkable transformation in a short period of time, it is the first time that Bower Park has been judged good in the school’s history.
Stuart is also the Chair of the Havering Learning Partnership (HLP) consisting of the Heads and principals of the secondary schools and colleges across the London Borough of Havering. He is also the secondary representative on the Havering Academy of Leadership which provides leadership development at all levels for teachers across the Borough.
Stuart has been the Principal of three other schools over the past 16 years. As a result, he has built up a huge amount of experience and expertise in a variety of schools. He will be able to provide Australian teachers with outstanding support, coaching and monitoring. Stuart will organise and deliver professional development for any Aussie teacher interviewing to work in the UK. Come along and interview with Stuart who has a wealth of experience covering pedagogy, curriculum, behaviour management, engagement and teacher/leadership development.
“Teaching in the UK is one of the most rewarding things you can do! You learn so much about yourself, about teaching in a different curriculum and experience a completely different way of life. Havering is a lovely area to live in. Hornchurch in the suburbs was peaceful and safe. It had really good public transport to and from the station, shops, restaurants and pubs. The trains were great to access London, I went to Shoreditch a few times which has a variety or pubs, clubs and restaurants.” Meghan
“Moving to England was the best decision I have ever made. I have gained experience by teaching in the UK as I taught Secondary in Australia and Primary in the UK. You are presented with so many great opportunities to develop your skills as a teacher and there is so much work available. The school I have a permanent position in is fantastic and the cost of living in Havering is very reasonable and affordable. Havering has great access to public transport and travelling through Europe is really easy and a lot of the cheaper airlines are fairly reliable. I have been able to travel to 6 countries so far, with more trips planned not far off!” Alannah
